April 2024 marks 100 years since the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, opened its doors. From its original site on a modest triangle of land, the MFAH has grown into a 14-acre main campus, plus two house museums and gardens. One hundred years ago, the Museum had 60 works of art. Today, the collection holds nearly 80,000 works of art.

The evolution over the past century has mirrored the growth and dynamism of Houston. As Director Gary Tinterow said, “What was aspirational in 1924 has become a reality: The Museum is now a place for all people, truly reflecting the various communities of the most diverse city in the United States.”
